Hello, I am writing on behalf of my dog Reiko in hopes to find a home for him. Reiko is 8 years old and has been with me since he was 16 weeks old. On Sunday we had an incident with Reiko when unexpectadely the neighbors 8 year old came running through the woods onto our property. Reiko was on a leash and was in the backyard with myself, my husband, our 7 year old daughter, and our other dog Rollo. The little girl did a cartwheel at the base of our yard and fell on her bottom. She was about 40 yards away from him. Reiko ran towards her and lunged on her and bit her. There have been three instances in the past where this little girls dog has escaped from his fenced yard and come into our yard. The last time this happened her dog bit Reiko and he bit him back. I feel that Reiko was protecting his yard and our family. He has never displayed this type of behavior and has never bitten a child or a human. However, he has been attacked several times by loose dogs when we lived in California. Reiko does not like dogs running up to him without warning or introduction. Since then I have always introduced Reiko to other dogs through a pack walk. The family of the girl is not asking us to put Reiko down, nor is the Wake county animal control, or the police department. We self reported the incident and Reiko is in quarantine for ten days. I would love to find Reiko a new home as my husband will not allow me to keep him with our daughter in the house. Ideally, he would live in a child free home with a fenced back yard. Reiko is up to date on all his immunizations, Trifexis, & medical needs. I am hoping that your organization can help guide me and find a new home for my sweet boy.
