About Rooster

Farm Animal
Age: Baby
Sex: Male

I rescued Huevos from a slaughterhouse in Staten Island, NY. I thought I was taking a hen, but he is actually a very young rooster. When he was taken out of the overcrowded cage the slaughterhouse was keeping him in, he was very frightened and began to squawk in terror. The room where they kill the birds is right next to the room with the cages. All of the previous animals that were taken out of their cage were killed, so Huevos was rightfully scared for his life. We put him in a cardboard box and walked him to the truck. My wife held the box on her lap as I drove. Huevos was shaking, terrified. But, when we got 2 blocks away from the slaughterhouse, it was as if he became an entirely different bird. He lifted his head up and began chirping curiously as relief flooded over him. He was grateful and got happier and happier the further we got from the slaughterhouse. We really like Huevos and he even gets along with our dog. He hasn't crowed at all yet, but he does chirp when he wants to come out of his cage and play. The problem is NYC does not allow residents to keep a rooster. We will have to get rid of him before the city finds out that we have him, or they will take him and euthanize him, or return him to a slaughterhouse. Please help our friend with a good home. He is submissive and friendly. He is not for fighting, and not for dinner. He is very grateful to be alive. Please, help him stay that way.
