About Tula

Adoption Fee: $150
Siberian Husky mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Tula is a wonderful girl who has been a joy to our family. we rescued her when we found her abandoned and starving on our road about a year and a half ago. We fell in love with her sweet personality. Our daughter was 6 months old at the time and she would just lick her and babysit her. She has gone backpacking for a 5 day trip in the Sierras and stayed right with us the whole time and happily wore her pack. She also was my training buddy for my trail marathon. She loves to run and can go forever. However, she has severe separation anxiety. When we boarded her while we went on vacation she barely ate and showed aggression to the kind lady who cared for her. We think that she was locked in a cage for long periods of time and neglected before we rescued her. Anytime she is on leash and someone, including children, approach her too quickly or excitedly and immediately tries to pet her she can be mouthy and growl. She's never full on bit someone, but has nipped. Once she meets the person or child she is great. We would have friends come over for play dates all the time. She needs a very large backyard with at least a 6ft fence with buried fence line. She is an escape artist. She goes crazy and somehow escapes from her kennel every time we leave her in it. She does best with a companion dog, we have a 2 year old husky lab mix that she loves. She does fine loose in the house usually but outside fenced yard is the safest bet if you need to leave for the day. She will get into the garbage at all costs. You have to put the garbage up or away anytime you leave her alone. She would be perfect for someone who telecommutes and goes on lots of adventures or a family where a member of the household can exercise her every day. She is a high maintenance dog, and with another baby on the way and having downgraded to a smaller yard and house, feel that she deserves better. We are heartbroken but care more about her needs than our feelings. Adoption fee negotiable after screening.
