About WRIGHT

Adoption Fee: $550
German Shepherd mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

WRIGHT was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. WRIGHT is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 8 March 2017 and at the time of rescue in February 2018 weighed around 36 pounds. Wright has been listed as a German Shepherd Dog mix, however, we are not able to say for sure what breed he is, it is up to you to look at his pictures and decide what you think he looks like. When this precious pup arrived at the rescue he was so scared, he would just stand and shake, he was skinny and was desperate for love and affection. He learned how to use the dog door quickly and after a few days, I put EMILY another very fearful dog (Border collie) in with him so they could enjoy each others company. They started playing and having a great time. After a week I brought WRIGHT (and Emily) over to the house so that he could have more freedom and interact with the other dogs, although he was with Emily he was still a little stressed in the kennels. In the house he was confident with the other dogs (ranging from 6 pound chi's up to 120 pound GSDs) he loves to play and is a groomer, as in he will go round and clean the dogs ears. He loves to get up on the sofa and snuggle to either me or the other dogs. He does use the dog door to go out and play or do his business and has not had any accidents in the house. He might not know to let you know he needs to go out, since he has 24/7 access with the dog doors, but he is a smart boy and a quick learner. He is very responsive and has never shown any kind of aggression with other dogs, humans, toys or food. He is young and so is high energy and will test boundaries. He needs an active family, I have not seen him with children, but his demeanor and personality I have no doubt that he would be great with them and a lot of fun too. He needs guidance and training and we recommend families go through at least the basics of training with him themselves so that boundaries, personalities and body language can be learned from each other. Wright rides good in the car, he sleeps either next on the sofa or on one of the many dog beds scattered around. He can be vocal when he is playing, but that is really his puppiness in him. Wright is used to being with other dogs so a family with another dog would be great, however, if that is not the case, then play-dates with other dogs would be extremely beneficial for him. We do not have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how he would be near or around them. 'We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. WRIGHT is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org WRIGHT is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
