About JERA

Adoption Fee: $550
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

JERA was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. Jera is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 17 August 2015 and at the time of rescue in February 2018 weighed around 48 pounds. Jera has been listed as an Australian Cattle Dog, however, we are not able to say for sure what breed she is, it is up to you to look at her pictures and decide what you think she looks like. Jera is a super smart girl who is clearly a working breed dog. She is very high energy and very responsive. She loves to have squeaky toys and will stay focused for a good while if you have her squeaky toy. Jera does appear to be an alpha type personality and so she doesn't always do well with other dogs. If a family has another dog, they must be confident in handling and their ability to train and work with the dogs if they don't always get along. Jera needs an active family and one that will keep her mind stimulated and challenged. Lots of hikes and adventures, training tricks, or agility, dock diving or other fun, active, stimulating activities would be perfect for this girl. We do not have cats at the rescue so we cannot say how she would be around them, however, I am not sure I would trust her with them since she has a high working drive. She is great with humans and I believe would be great with children, I am sure they could keep each other entertained for many hours. She does use the dog door to go out and play or do her business and has not had any accidents in her pen. She might not know to let you know she needs to go out, since she has 24/7 access with the dog doors, but she is an extremely smart girl and a quick learner. 'We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. More so with Jera having an alpha personality this could cause potential problems with other dogs that you do not know. Jera is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org Jera is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
