About EMILY

Adoption Fee: $550
Border Collie
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

EMILY was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. EMILY is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 7 February 2016 and at the time of rescue in February 2018 weighed around 34 pounds. Emily has been listed as a Border Collie, however, we are not able to say for sure what breed she is, it is up to you to look at her pictures and decide what you think she looks like. When working with the shelter they told me that Emily was extremely fearful, but has shown no aggression, so we took this beauty on to give her a chance. At the rescue she has been extremely scared but working with her in her kennel she did start to gain trust taking treats from the dog bed that I set down close by to me. She did take a few treats from my hand but was very nervous in doing so. After a few days I put her in with WRIGHT another scared pup and the two instantly started to play. She is still very nervous with people, but had started to relax a little more. After a week or so I brought Emily (and Wright) over to the house and she has been fine. She took a few days to get comfortable and walk around with the other dogs and still will play with Wright, when he is not playing with the other dogs. She is extremely smart and watches everything I do. She has either been badly abused or just never had any kind of interaction with humans. She will walk around the house exploring, but is conscious of where I am and what I am doing. If I go up to her with a treat she will shy away or run off, but after a little while will come back to see what it is and will gingerly take it from my hand. She will walk on the leash and does use the dog door to go outside to do her business or go out to explore. We do not have cats or livestock at the rescue so are unable to comment how she would be near or around them. Emily is going to need a very special family who understands that this precious girl has had some significant trauma. She needs to be with a family that will let her come around and build trust in her own time and understand that could take a few weeks or it could take months or even years. It is not something that can be predicted and not something that should be forced upon her. She is very gentle sweet girl, with so much potential and when she plays with Wright it is truly heart melting to see her enjoying life. A family with another dog would help her adapt a lot quicker. 'We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. EMILY is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org EMILY is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
