About Cosmo-ADOPTION PENDING

Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier / Cairn
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

The very first thing that Cosmo the Wheaten/Cairn Terrier mix wants to make clear is that he's a love and so very beautiful. In this photo, you're not aware of the striking golden streaks that run through his gorgeous coat - with grooming, care and great nutrition, Cosmo's coat will show its gorgeous colors . Everything is new to Cosmo...his little nose sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And then before you know it, Cosmo is in your lap or next to you on the couch. He's so happy there because his relationships are so important to him. This 2.5 year old, 19 lb Wheaten mix truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. In this spirit of great behavior, Cosmo was identified by shelter personnel as a sweet and engaging guy who will be a gift to a family that loves dogs. The following notation was put on Cosmo's kennel card: Shelter personnel created a play group of smaller, well-behaved male dogs. They all interacted off leash in the outside runs and couldn't have been sweeter! Cosmo (a shelter favorite hands down!) held a loose swaying body, swaying high tail, open panting mouth, and able to play bow and run laps peacefully with the other dogs. When retrieved, Cosmo was happy and wiggly. He jumped up on me to seek affection and interacted in the sweetest possible way. Absolutely love this dog! He will be a gift to a family. Cosmo is such a people dog...he loves older kids (hasn't been tested with children under 10) but they definitely must be very gentle and handle him kindly. We envision Cosmo with an active retired couple or individual or a family with older kids who want an adorable and engaging dog as a family member and best companion. He will be a lap dog extraordinaire as well as a fun and playful guy who enjoys outdoor play and adventures. Cosmo will be so excited to spend his days in the company of his favorite people. Being a Terrier mix, Cosmo is super-smart and loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. He would be a natural in positive reinforcement group obedience classes. Cosmo would love the challenge of training and is so smart and wanting to please that he would excel. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area. Cosmo would also be overjoyed to hike along gorgeous Colorado paths..enjoying the sunshine and time with his people. Cosmo can have just a moment of insecurity from the turmoil that has been in his life...a guardian who is present and full of good intention can readily get this great guy past these feelings and let him know he is loved and won't be abandoned. His nature is to be very joyful and in moments his silly and fun nature takes over. Cosmo appears to be a non-shedding dog (although it's difficult to tell until his sad shelter coat grows out). He will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy, cottony-soft and matt-free. We've requested that Cosmo be neutered prior to his arrival in Colorado. Since Texas shelters have very limited access to vets and funding...this isn't always possible. Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Cosmo's neuter and microchip after his arrival on transport if our Denver vet is used. Vets believe that Cosmo may have suffered trauma in his right eye. It doesn't appear to cause him any pain or problems but should be checked after he arrives in Colorado. When Cosmo goes in to be fixed, Farfel's will cover the cost for his eye to be checked and any medical help that's necessary. Cosmo will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 3/2/18. Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet and devoted best friend and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested, please fill out and return to [email protected] or fax to 303-443-7730. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Cosmo, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving guy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
