Josie could be that dream come true companion for a family with older kids or active retirees who love spending their time with a cottony-soft and very sweet companion. The Havanese mix is a perfect combo for those who are searching for an extremely smart, loving and loyal family dog companion. Josie's story is all too common in her close call to being euthanized in a scary New Mexico shelter. But who could ignore her sweet and loving manner and desire to bond with anyone who might be her new best friend. Josie's engaging and fun-loving nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated. She is such a wonderful being...we think she represents the best qualities of the Havanese (with perhaps a bit of Yorkie in the mix). She may be initially shy or frightened.. but is in the process of leaving behind the challenges of her early life. At about 2 years old and 12 or so lbs (we'll update with exact weight/age as soon as we receive the information), Josie is a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier her family is with her behavior, the more she shines with her accomplishments. We would love to see Josie in a home that includes her in family time and activities...she's very social and would thrive in a family that truly loves her and considers her a very important family member. Josie would also be a wonderful companion for active retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young dog. She doesn't require another dog to be happy...but does enjoy her canine relationships with kind and gentle dogs. Josie will do well with a loving guardian who's invested in spending time with their pup. She's so pleasant and portable that she can be a part of any adventure....it can be a leisurely walk, a hike in the mountains or a visit with friends. A car ride is always fun..especially if it leads to a fun spot. Josie would also be very happy to spend the afternoon just being together plopped down on the couch..or on her favorite person's lap - all of this would speak to Josie's gentle temperament and loving ways. Josie is a mixture of several non-shedding breeds and considered to be a combination of the most hypoallergenic breed mixes available. It's difficult to see Josie's beauty in her photos as her coat has gone uncared for for a very long time. Josie is in desperate need of a sudsy bath and grooming..and she may require her coat to be shaved to give it a chance to grow out fresh and new. Once she receives her spa day, she will require an ongoing commitment to periodic baths/grooming and great nutrition to keep her coat healthy and soft as cotton. We've requested that Josie be spayed prior to her arrival in Colorado. Since New Mexico shelters have very limited access to vets and funding...this isn't always possible. Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Josie's spay and microchip after her arrival on transport if our Denver vet is used. Josie will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 2/24/18.
