About Picasso-PENDING!

Westie / Maltese
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

When Picasso's rescuer walked down the aisle of the dismal New Mexico shelter, she was shocked to see the adorable (and extremely dirty and matted) Picasso tucked tightly into a cage...his time was up. Farfel's immediately got a call describing how incredibly cute and sweet this Westie/Maltese is..and the need to save his life. We immediately agreed and Picasso became a very treasured Farfel's dog. He has earned a ticket to a wonderful new life in Colorado with his great temperament that holds every possibility for a great future. Caleb is 9 lbs and just about 2.5 years old (such a great age - young enough to have many, many active years ahead but old enough to be past his puppy antics). Also the perfect size for walks/playing or lap sitting and cuddling. This very beautiful guy is a blank slate waiting for positive input and guidance to be the best dog he's capable of being. We'd love to match Picasso to a family that will spend lots of time with this very great companion. He's a perfect size to accompany his family just about anywhere...and would love it. Positive reinforcement group obedience class is highly recommended for this little guy. It will not only provide socialization and great skills...but will cement the relationship between Picasso and his family. He's so smart that he's a natural to succeed in learning his skills...and would be so excited at his success! Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area. Now that Picasso is groomed and gorgeous, he gets lots of attention when he's out and about. He's engaging (while a bit shy at first) and as sweet as can be. He's also extremely eye-catching..Westie/Maltese mixes are beautiful dogs that sadly are opportunistically bred to be sold for high prices or dumped if any challenges occur. Farfel's Rescue is happy to save these precious dogs and provide them with new and wonderful lives. When Picasso turns that gentle look in your direction (with those amazing dark and expressive eyes), you can't help but smile at his adorable ways. You can see just a bit of a sign that this guy has had difficult times. But not for him to be negative for long..a smile and a wag is more Picasso's style. It's clear that he is working on leaving any pain behind. Farfel's is searching for an adult family for Picasso. It's not that he actively doesn't like young kids..it just appears that Picasso is more comfortable and braver around adult energy. A retired couple or individual would be perfect for this guy. He would thrive on the time and attention that retirees often put into their pets. Picasso, once bonded, will be a loyal and positive companion - this makes him very easy to spend time with just enjoying the wonders of life in Colorado. Picasso is a very happy dog once he's comfortable...a bit of patience, treats and belly rubs will truly get this guy's attention as he's had far too little of all in his life. Picasso's foster mom is very happy to report that he is coming out of his shell a bit more each day...Picasso is blossoming. She's very clear that Picasso will be a wonderful and bonded family member when he has love and nurturing as a part of his life. Picasso is a truly beautiful guy who with hair care will grow out what appears to be a stunning, non-shedding coat. With a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition...his cottony-soft hair will grow back with the beauty that speaks of his breed mix. Picasso is up to date on his vetting, but has yet to be neutered. We're hoping that he will be fixed when he arrives from New Mexico, however there are far too few vets in this impoverished area of the state. If Picasso isn't fixed, Farfel's will cover all costs for him to be neutered and microchipped at our vet in Denver to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation. Picasso will arrive on transport in Denver on Saturday 2/24/18. If interested in this very loving and devoted best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to [email protected] or fax to 303-443-7730. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Picasso, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
