Michael - AVAIL 3/4! :) M, 13 y/o, 73 lbs Lab mix ///// Michael is looking for someone who's home most of the day who he can walk and hang out with. This amazingly sweet & gentle boy follows you EVERYWHERE around the house - inside and out! He gets along with everybody - humans, dogs, and cats included. He may be senior and recovering from years of neglect but he can walk and climb stairs on his own, wakes you up in the morning to get out of bed, and won't hesitate to tell you you're taking too long! ///// NOTE: We think that years of back arthritis pain (see HISTORY below) may have encouraged Michael to lay around continuously for years as evidenced by his atrophied back leg muscles and callouses. However, he has responded far better than we had hoped to minimal amounts of oral anti-inflamatories and today walks and negotiates steps completely on his own! ///// HISTORY: Michael & Michelle were impounded by animal control officers after their owner died and were moments from being euthanized. We rescued both of them and brought them straight to our veterinarian. Michael was weak, could barely stand (let alone walk!) and was suffering from a respiratory infection - unfortuntaely all things that would have turned adopters away at the kill-shelter. Evaluation & X-rays revealed he has really good mobility in his hips but his spine is about 75% bridged due to arthritis. Our vet looked at his tumors and does NOT recommend risking surgery to remove them as they were determined in X-rays to be non-invasive and due to his older age. He is not neutered for the same reason. His respiratory issues have been resolved and Michael is on a simple 'as needed' plan of oral anti-inflammatory and anti-pain pills 'as needed'. In just a few weeks he's turned into a happy-go-lucky boy, walking, following people around the house, and wagging his tail at everyone! ///// FOSTER / ADOPTION Our adoptable pups are up to date on shots, spayed/neutered (if able), and fully vetted!
