Hello, I'm Pookie! **Please read my entire bio!** I'm about six years old, up-to-date on all vaccinations, and am neutered. I am completely house-trained and crate-trained, but I would rather be out with you if you're home. I don't chew on things in the house, except for my toys! When my fosters took me from the shelter, I had heartworms, I was defensive, and didn't trust anyone. However, a lot has changed since then! I am now heartworm negative, full of love and energy, and trust my foster parents! My humans say that I have gotten much better with resource guarding (food, water, rawhides) since I came from the shelter, but I still require some patience. Once I learn to trust my humans, I will drop things when they tell me to 'leave it.' I am VERY food motivated! Treats help me learn to love and trust people! I am a 'family unit' type of dog. I love and trust my humans, but I am very suspicious of strangers. I have to make sure my humans are safe! My foster parents say I should not go to a home with children because they don't know how I would act around them. I love to play with my little foster fur brother, but I get defensive and guarded around other strange dogs. I would do well in a family without another dog, or with a dog who is very passive. I love to go outside, but if I'm not on a leash I will run off on an adventure! I have a strong herding instinct; I always want to chase rabbits, squirrels, and birds. I love to go on walks, but I always try to chase/herd the cars that go by. Because of this, my furever home should be in a lower traffic area. Ideally, my future home should have a large fenced-in yard so I can run around and play... I have LOADS of energy! My absolute favorite thing in the world is to be brushed. You can brush me while I lie on my back for an hour and I would never move! I need to be brushed regularly because I have a long thick coat. My furever home should be patient with me, as I will take awhile to open up and trust you. Once I do, you will see I'm a loving dog that just wants to hang out with you and be given some love!
