About Captain

O Captain! By day he's a mighty and adventuresome backyard explorer, stalking the wily lizards and watching over his people as they garden, relax, or fire up the grill. By night he's an affectionate couch cuddler until it's time to crawl under the covers with you at bedtime. This long-legged Rat Terrier boy is 6 years old and a fit 24 lbs. Captain is house-trained and knows how to use a dog door. He really loves the great outdoors, accompanying his people on long hikes, boating excursions, and trips to the dog park. He gets along with other dogs when he is free to roam off leash, like at the dog park, but on leash he can react defensively to both dog and human strangers. Captain has a timid side and frightens easily. He barks, and when he feels really threatened, he will growl to signal he is uncomfortable, but he has never bitten anyone. For this reason though, Captain would do best in a home without kids, especially those younger than school age, who might not understand or heed his warnings, or older kids who have lots of friends coming and going as that would be very stressful for him. Captain would love to find a home with a fenced backyard and an active person or couple who shares his love of the outdoors, enjoys lots of one-on-one time, and would protect him from any scary people out there.
