About Nala

Nala was dumped in a park in Lompoc, CA a few months ago with major injuries to her rear leg. It was infected and she had to undergo bandage changes almost every day. It has since healed up but there is some permanent damage to her tendon and muscle and it affects the way she walks and how much pressure she can put on that leg. She can go on walks and seems to be getting around well but sometimes needs help with stairs or getting on the couch. She also had one seizure during a bandage change one day but it did not last long. She has been tentatively diagnosed with a conditions known as Syringomyelia; This is a neurological disease that interferes with nerve receptors, and can cause phantom scratching. We have started her on a medication called Gabapentin and it is helping, she will need to be on medications 2-3 times daily for the rest of her life. The only way to definitely confirm this diagnosis would be to do an MRI which is not in our budget. Due to her special needs, Nala is in foster care with one of our staff members. NALA - ID#A420251
