About Freckles

Meet handsome Freckles, a 5 year old Maltese mix who weighs about 9 pounds. Freckles and his brother Fred were owner surrendered to a local shelter. They were both terrified in that environment and wouldn't let anyone near them. They gave us a call and our President and VP went down and sat with them (with gloves on and a blanket), in hopes of calming them down enough to be able to give them their freedom ride. It was quite a struggle, but they didn't give up on them because they knew it was simply fear aggression. Freckles is heartworm negative, housebroken, and microchipped. He is good with most dogs, but has not been tested with cats. Because Freckles still has some fear, he would not be suitable in a home with children. Freckles can sometimes growl at people or dogs he doesn't know and we feel that is due to fear, not because he is aggressive. His new family will need to be aware of this, and continue working with him on building confidence and trust so that he feels secure. Once he trusts you and loves you he is a very loyal companion. Freckles will need to go to a home with a fenced yard. If he is near an open door in the house, he has been known to run right out, so care must be taken.
