About Panda

Australian Shepherd / Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Panda - Emergency!!!! Panda adopted, a few months ago, gets extremely excited when someone knocks on his new owner's door. The 2 other dogs in the home escalate the excitability. At this point, Panda has nipped the owner, when reaching to correct this behavior. We discussed muzzling Panda, re-creating the situation, rolling him into a submissive position, Panda responded well, he instantly calmed. Got up, relaxed and ready to lick his owners chin. The other day, Panda was not muzzled when came a knock at the door. His owner reached for the collar, and Panda bit, badly. The managing of Panda was successful. But the follow through was not. He needed more time and consistency. However, due to this incident, Panda is not eligible to come back to rescue. It's the shelter, or euthanasia. He could be adopted into a different situation, one where he is the only dog, or, where the other dogs are calm and don't wind Panda up like this. An adoption would be through the current owner, and only to a qualified adopter who understands the situation. The situation is, this is his last chance. Panda is a gorgeous dog, who could be great in the right environment. Original post: 3 + years old. Panda was surrendered by his owner, who didn't have the time to exercise him properly. He is Australian Shepherd, Queensland Heeler and some Border Collie. Panda spent a few days in the shelter, but his owner couldn't stand the thought of him there, found me, and pulled him out of the shelter to bring him here. In the mean time, Panda passed his shelter evaluation no problem. This guy is great with other dogs. He also lived with a baby in the home. He was totally sweet and a nice dog. His owner brought him here, off leash and Panda was a very obedient and a quiet dog. He knows commands. He is also one of the most photogenic dogs I've ever seen! Really fun on a pack walk. Loves the water, fantastic recall and played like crazy with the pack. https://www.facebook.com/cchdrescue.org/videos/2019107701638632/ There was a line of adopters for Panda, but he needed a home with the active lifestyle he needed. Enter previous adopter. Panda seemed to fit the bill and off they went. Fast fwd a months later. Panda's looking at a new, appropriate home, or a last ride to the vet.
