About Carson

Carson (also known as Red) is a 15 pound, 8-9 year old boy who has strength, courage and despite the cruelty of man, love, and acceptance. It has taken four long years, but Carson is healthy and read to love and find a forever home. Carson's life has not been an easy one. Treated with ultimate act of cruelty, Carson was used as a bait dog for dog fighting. His teeth were filed down so that he had no way of defending himself; covered in scars and wounds, he was found tied to a tree, abandoned and left to meet his fate. When we took Carson to the vet to start his journey of recovery, we learned that he was stage 4 heartworm positive. We decided to treat him with the slow kill treatment method that would be gentle on his embattled body. After three and a half years of treatment, we were thrilled to recently learn that Carson had won the battle and he was officially heartworm negative. Carson needs a home that has a doggie pal for him because, due to his horrible treatment before he joined GDR, he has some anxiety and another dog makes him feel secure.
