About Dimitri SPECIAL NEEDS

Dimitri is a short haired, black male around 5 years old. He is looking for a very special home with a kind and loving forever family. He is very cautious of people, but he does want to be near you and will come out and watch what you are doing. We suspect he was someone's pet at one point before his trust was broken. We think he will continue to improve with time, though he may never be a lap-cat. In the few months he has been with us he has become very comfortable inside and will come out to be with you, though he still darts off if you reach to pet him. He LOVES to play and is very energetic at times despite being an older boy. He does well with most other cats, though he does sometimes have issues with dominant males. He would love a quiet home where he could just be himself. He is considered special needs as he has a history of urinary crystals and severe urinary tract infections. He has done well on normal cat food so long as he is not overly stressed- a stable home is a must. He will need to be monitored for signs of recurring urinary issues and may need to be switched back to the urinary diet at some point in the future. He has tested positive for heartworms, he is currently asymptomatic but will need to be monitored for signs of respiratory distress. He has been neutered, FeLV/FIV tested negative, vaccinated, and treated with flea meds, and microchipped.
