About Princess

Adoption Fee: $130
American Staffordshire Terrier mix
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

My name is Roxana Farahani and I am a volunteer at San Gabriel Valley Humane Society (SGVHS) located in the greater Los Angeles area. I would be so grateful if you would consider helping one of our most beloved dogs. I am actively looking for a rescue or adopter for Princess, our petite (45lb), 13.5-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier Mix. She needs and deserves to spend the remaining years of her life outside of a kennel with a loving family in a cozy house with some outdoor space. She is very receptive and appreciative of any signs of interest and affection. She loves meeting new people and is friendly and affectionate. She always warmly greets a new or familiar dog walking volunteer. Although the shelter does not test dogs with children, Princess has met older children (10+ years) during a local city council meeting and was gentle and polite. Princess is adored by everyone at SGVHS. She came to our shelter over almost 2 years ago, a surrender by her previous owners who could not take her when they moved. Based on information provided by neighbors of her former owner, Princess was a backyard dog for most of her life. She is still in a great shape, without any major health issues. She appears energetic and healthy. She is a calm, sweet, cuddly and playful lady. She is smart and learned several commands while with us including sit, shake and drop it. She enjoys her walks around the park and is great on a leash. Princess has had a sleepover at one of our volunteer's house, and she did very well, she was a perfect guest. Although she will need to be introduced to a potty schedule in the home, she did not have any accidents during the sleepover when the volunteer took her out regularly. We were thrilled to give her a taste of real home even just for one night. Princess can be selective about dogs she likes and takes a liking to the ones she chooses. It would be best for Princess to be in a single dog household or with someone who can work with her to slowly socialize and introduce her to a multi-dog household. Princess has been observed to eat, take treats and play gently. We have not noticed any food aggression or possessiveness with toys. Sadly (and inexplicably), Princess has been with us over a year and a half and there has been very little interest in her. We really do not remember last time someone asked to meet her. Our community prefers small, young dogs - so nearly 14-year-old Princess has a very small chance for adoption with us. For these reasons, we are actively looking for a rescue who can provide Princess a temporary, more comfortable home and be in a position to find her a forever loving family who can take care of her for the remaining years of her life. Princess is spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped. Any questions you can contact the shelter at 626-286-1159 or you can also continue e-mailing me: [email protected]
