About Austin

Lab / Bearded Collie
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

The very first thing that Austin the Labrador Retriever/Beagle mix wants to make clear is that he's a love. In these photos, you're not aware of the golden shades that run through his gorgeous coat. It is with grooming, care and great nutrition that Austin's 's coat will show its gorgeous color and cottony-soft hair that speaks of his breed mix. His foster home (with so much love and caring) is new to Austin...his nose sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And then before you know it, he is next to you on the couch. He's so happy there because his human (and canine) relationships are so important to him. We have to remember that Austin came from a very tough and challenging shelter. This 18 - 24 month old, 35 lb (such a perfect medium size) Lab/Beagle mix truly lights up whens he feels likes he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. In this spirit of great behavior, Austin is working with his foster mom on mastering his house skills. The Lab/Beagle mix is a new and very popular breed mix called a Beagador. They're recognized for their great temperaments (excellent family dogs!), loyalty and the love that they bring to a home. They're also perfect for a family that loves Labs, but desires the smaller size of a Beagador. Austin 's foster mom has the following to say about this sweet guy: Austin is doing great. He's still a young guy and just needs patience and love...and he blossoms. I sit with him and we talk about what a wonderful guy he is and what a great future he has to look forward to...I'm not kidding that I think he understands! Just a bit shy initially (but he should be after what he's been through)...and then the sweetest love! Austin is so kind and cuddly... belly rubs and treats also are a gift to this sweet guy who has never had this kind of nurturing. Austin really enjoys my 2 dogs and they all have the greatest time playing in my yard. Austin is very respectful of them and they really enjoy his company. I was very pleasantly surprised at the level of his respect and gentle nature - when they tell him they have had enough play time, Austin backs off and keeps himself busy in a positive way. You would expect a young Lab/Beagle mix to be a bit crazy and have tons of energy..this isn't the case with Austin. He has exactly the right amount of energy. I've had the most amazing time hiking/walking with Austin. He's such a sweet soul that I have no anxiety when we meet other dogs or people on our daily walks. He's very appropriate and exhibits respectful behavior while still learning his leash skills. I can definitely picture Austin falling in love with hiking the mountains of Colorado. He would be perfect in a home where his family love the outdoors and desires to take Austin along on hikes, snow-shoeing and climbing adventures. I actually think Austin is extremely level-headed for a young guy. . He loves to play (once comfortable), run and beginnings of different types of ball play...but then loves to cuddle equally. His temperament is really developing! I just have to walk into the room and glance at him...it's head to toe waggy tail and huge smile (now that he knows me better). He is such a sweet puppy - anyone who welcomes Austin into their home is truly getting a gem of a dog! Austin 's SUMMARY Dark-eyed (with so much wisdom) Austin is such a people dog. He enjoys kids (no tail-pulling please) but they definitely must be very gentle and handle him kindly. We envision Austin with active retirees or a family with a bit older kids who want a beautiful and sweet dog as a family member and best companion. He would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his family. Being a Lab mix, Austin loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. He would be a natural in positive reinforcement group obedience classes. He would love the challenge and is so smart and wanting to please..he would excel (Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area). Austin would also be overjoyed to hike along Colorado paths..enjoying the sunshine and time with his people. His nature, while initially a bit shy, quickly becomes very joyful and his silly and fun puppyish nature takes over. Austin will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 2/2/18.
