Monty is fostered in St. Petersburg, FL (Pinellas County). We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for foster families! Meet Monty, one of the happiest boys you will ever come across! He needs a patient leader who will work on his insecurities. He is easily spooked at times. He is between 1.5-2 years old, 35 lbs and a natural athlete. We saved him from a hoarding situation, and he shows little of his previous life around dogs except that he can be quite timid in large pack situations. He has no on-leash reactivity with other dogs and does fine with them. He is also pretty friendly and balanced with new people, but can be scared if a familiar person is not around. At this time we recommend older children only for his home. Monty is quite energetic and enthusiastically retrieves a ball or runs for miles with his foster family. He will require an active home, ideally with a fenced yard, and one that will give him a job to do. Regardless, someone who understands or has done their reading on herding breeds will be a must. He does have an off switch and will relax on his place (dog bed), in the crate, or under the dining room table. He is definitely a guy's guy who forms an almost instant bond, and it will be imperative that he gets individual time with each family member in the home to prevent him from becoming too attached to one particular person. He is beautifully crate trained, walks nicely on a leash, is housebroken and extremely biddable. Monty is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives, and heartworm negative. He is ready to meet his new BFF!
