About Sagan

Adoption Fee: $175
Rat Terrier / Chihuahua
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

This little peanut is Sagan, and he is a very special little guy! A Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix weighing just 9 lbs., 1-year-old Sagan is fully grown physically, but he is still growing in other ways. Sagan came into foster care very suspicious of humans, fearing the worst in those he met. Today, however, his resilient side is winning and as he realizes he is safe, he shows so much joy and love! Sagan prefers adult women and is able to bond with females quickly, whereas it took him around a week to warm to his foster dad. Now that they are buds, Sagan is playful and affectionate towards Foster Dad, unless Foster Mom's lap is available--in which case, that's where Sagan is likely to be found. Sagan is somewhat picky about his dog friends--he enjoys playing with some dogs and is indifferent to others. Car travel is a source of anxiety for Sagan, so he is hoping for a local adoption. Sagan is mostly house-trained, but he is still a little too shy to give cues when he has to go. He has had a few emergency accidents in the house, but with a regular routine and a keen eye kept on him, he is good about doing his business outside. Sagan recently discovered the joy of dog toys--indeed, the joy of being a dog. It took some patience to give him the time he needed to learn to trust, and watching him blossom has been very rewarding for his foster parents. Since very young children are not likely to have the patience to take things slowly with Sagan, they could end up frightening him in an effort to befriend him. Therefore it would be best if he went to a home without little kids. A quiet home with one or two adults can provide him the reliably safe, love-filled life of comfort he deserves.
