About Opie

Adoption Fee: $50
Boxer mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Opie is the sweetest, most trying to please little man as ever..however, he does have fear issues which causes some anxiety and aggression. He was a rescue and came with a note that mentioned he was timid and would likely need extra attention. We gave him a lot of attention but fell a trainer would be beneficial. He's been a wonderful companion but we've recently added a baby to our household and can no longer give him the required attention he needs. We should have taken extra time before baby to work on some behavioral issues and now don't have the time required to train him so he can be around the baby. We've met with trainers who have advised us it'll take about 6-8 weeks of training for him to maybe be around baby; we can't keep him locked up like that until he's better. He does get along with our female dog we adopted 2.5 years ago, she was a puppy when we adopted her. The two get along wonderfully (see video)! We had an older male dog when we adopted Opie. The two got along fine until the male passed away of old age. That said, I wouldn't put him in with other dogs unless the two are supervised. Unless you have a lot of time to acclimate him, I think he needs a home where he'd be the only dog. He's never been formally introduced to cats, but chases them out of the yard...my guess is NO cats. He knows how to sit, lay down, and shake. He's beyond loyal and LOVES hugs. We're really going to miss him. He loves footballs, actual footballs - he's our little jock! He'll play with one for hours, it'll crack you up! He loves all balls though, tennis, mini-basketballs, chew balls; you name it! Opie is house broken 100%, he's the best. He will do anything to please - there's just his fear. He needs to be indoors (a delicate jock), and with a couple or family with older kids. He's partial to females, but over time warms up to the men too! He gets really nervous in the car, so car rides are prob best kept to a minimal. He really is a homebody. He's okay on the leash, but is scared of parked (yep parked, not driving cars..don't know why) cars. If you're interested please get in touch!
