About Maggie

Maggie is a 5 year old Yorkshire Terrier whose small stature (weighing in at about 6 pounds) is no match for her extra large personality! Maggie came to the rescue with quite a few medical issues. In November, 2017 she underwent surgery on both her hind legs to repair fluxating patellas (floating kneecaps) and came through like a champ! In January, 2018 this little girl had to have 7 teeth extracted under anesthesia as the tooth decay was into the roots of the teeth. Again - no sweat! Her remaining issue is one we cannot repair; she is blind in one eye and has a cataract on the other. The surgery would be in the $3-4k range and it has been decided by both the vet and the rescue that we can not justify that expense as this is not a life threatening injury, but one she can live with (and has been likely for her entire life.) She will require a lifetime of drops to keep her eyes hydrated and monitoring to ensure the health of the eye with the cataract. The eye drops are prescription and a two month supply can be found at Costco for about $35. She doesn't let her handicap get in her way though. She can navigate stairs, finds her way to the pee pad and the dinner bowl with ease and always knows where her temp mom is when she's home! She is full of life and is always looking for something to get into! Maggie would definitely benefit from a home with no other dogs or with dogs who don't mind a new alpha leader; she's used to getting her way, especially when it comes to food. In her temp home she is fed separately and kept apart from the other animals during animal feeding and human dining times as she has no problem going up against anyone she feels stands between her and a good piece of bacon or toast! She is also very vocal about wanting to go outside or being picked up or just generally voicing her displeasure with your lack of attention to her every want or need! Maggie is pee pad trained and crate trained. Maggie has won the heart of her temp mom, and we are confident that her cuteness along with her fiery personality will be the perfect match for someone out there! She has been around cats and kids with no issues. She loves to give kisses!
