ChiChi is an adorable, friendly and active, five-year-old, male chinchilla looking for a loving guardian. ChiChi was given up to rescue when his family could no longer care for him. Chinchillas can be long-term companions living up to 20 years or so. He has a diet of mostly hay, chinchilla pellets, an occasional treat and fresh water. Chinchillas can overheat easily and cannot survive temperatures over 75F, or below 50F. So, their cage needs to be kept in a cool room with lots of airflow without direct sunlight or high humidity. In the summer, he'll need air conditioning; in the winter, he'll need heat. Chinchillas are native to the Andes mountains of northern Chile. They are agile and able to jump around mountain peaks and their dense fur protects them from the cold. Chinchillas are actually an endangered species in the wild because they were hunted for their fur. They were brought to America to make fur coats and the breeders were so enamored with how sweet and adorable they were that they also turned them into pets. To meet and possibly adopt handsome and sweet ChiChi, please contact Sheri at [email protected] for an adoption application. He is currently being fostered in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood. He comes complete with a four-level cage, pellets, hay, treats, water bottle, litter, dust bath, carrying case - everything you need to care for him. His adoption fee of $100 benefits the Friends of Petraits rescue group. Please read up on Chinchilla care prior to adopting at http://chinchillacare.org/
