Rally's last chance. I am not going to sugar coat Rally. He needs a home and he is on the list for euth. In fact, every rescue we have contacted recommends putting him down. Anymore, rescues want quick adoptions and few will rehabilitate for behavior needs. Here is his story. He was in the pound as a wee pup. Pulled into rescue and adopted to a gentleman at 10 weeks old. 4 years later, he was returned to rescue due to irresponsible ownership. Then he stayed in rescue for nearly a year. Finally adopted...for 2 days. Returned because he hadn't pooped yet. Pretty common actually but alas, it was his reason for a 3rd surrender. Finally, adopted again, and returned. 4 strikes. Extensive rehab went into Rally. He is far from a bad dog. He's not even near the worst we've had in rescue. He is insecure. He would be best in a home with no other dogs, and older children or no children. We have 4 young children and no issues but I just prefer this chance to be the best fit for him as it's his last chance. He really only seems to tolerate puppies. Seems to ignore cats. Does NOT like to be corrected so an owner needs to establish alpha and cannot, absolutely cannot buy into the 'furbaby' humanizing of pets craze. He is a dog, he understands dog, and he needs a secure environment with an owner who understands dog. What behaviors does he display? He is cuddly and needy. He is fine when left alone and does good in his crate so not separation anxiety, he just has no confidence and likes to cuddle. He does not like any animal in his face so introductions with other dogs are difficult. If they ignore him, he will ignore them but he LOVES to play with puppies. Rally likes to play with toys and will throw them for himself. He does good on a leash but does not like to be left outside in a yard by himself and will get out of a 4 foot fence to come to the door. Rally does not like to be corrected. He will growl and show his teeth if he is allowed to. Even a simple command to get off the couch and he feels insecure. I don't know what happened to him in those 4 first years but he is insecure and feels threatened when corrected. He cannot be allowed to get away with such behavior. Once he knows that, he is good. Rally thrives in an environment where he knows what the rules are, knows he is safe, and knows his owners aren't anxious. A calm, assertive owner. I wish I could rehab him further but am overseas and frankly, he's unadoptable from rescue at this point. Who wants a 4 time returnee? No one. All he looks like is a risk even though he isn't. He doesn't deserve to sit in a kennel for 8 months as that isn't mentally healthy either. If you are looking for a good dog, are a calm and assertive owner with patience who will give him a few days to bond, who will exercise him and help him grow, you'll have a best friend for life and we'd love to hear from you.
