About Hunter-PENDING!

Australian Shepherd / Border Collie
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

It got scarily close to Hunter's euthanasia time in a dismal Kansas shelter. It was definitely through no fault of his own..it's all a matter of space. He came in at a very crowded time (but then again..all times are very crowded) and was therefore given a very short window in which to be rescued. After a scramble by our very compassionate rescuer (she has a soft spot for a really cute fuzzy guy with a great temperament!), Hunter was pulled out of the shelter at the last second possible. His rescuer, shelter workers and Hunter's foster haven't stopped raving about this adorable and engaging guy ever since. Hunter is a stunning example of the Miniature Australian Shepherd (with perhaps a touch of a small Border Collie in there but we're not entirely sure). These Mini dogs are very popular for their smaller size and stunning coats...as well as the super intelligence of this breed. For this reason, they're being opportunistically bred and then sold for high price tags to mostly online buyers. Farfel's Rescue makes every effort to save the lives of these dogs. Hunter, at just about 9 - 12 months old old and 27 lbs is the perfect size to take along just about anywhere. He is such a perfect candidate to find his forever home in Colorado - he's a natural-born hiker with the energy and enthusiasm to accompany his favorite person on any trail. We envision Hunter with a family with very respectful, older kids who love dogs or active retirees who enjoy spending their time with a comical fuzzy guy. We're searching for a family that either works part-time, works from home or is retired. Hunter will blossom in the company of a guardian who is very present..and loves to provide him with exercise, mental stimulation and group classes with a positive reinforcement trainer. Hunter will be a star in these classes while bonding with his family and learning the skills to accompany his people everywhere a smaller, well-trained dog is welcome. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area. Hunter would be a very family-oriented pup if given the chance...adventures, vacations or just hanging out at home would speak to the nature of this guy. A fun time would be exploring dog-friendly spots or time spent socializing with gentle canines and their dog-loving families. At the end of the day...there would be nothing better for Hunter than to snuggle down with his family of humans and canines..he is unknown with cats. Hunter can be counted on to be a truly positive addition to any home. He is a happy guy once comfortable whose joy at being part of a committed family would know no bounds. While Hunter was very frightened by his shelter experience, he is now out of the shelter and with his rescuer. She's working with Hunter on his confidence (as he bonds, he's definitely blossoming), leash skills and he's being taught his basic house skills. His rescuer has described him as a lovebug and a sweetpea...can we possibly say more? They did say that Hunter may need a bit of time after his very long transport to Colorado to be his happy and very loving self. Hunter is in need of a sudsy bath and a great brushing%BD'%BD|. he will emerge with an amazing coat that will highlight the gorgeous chestnut coloring and softness that speak of his breed. Hunter will require a commitment to periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition to keep his lovely coat healthy, cottony-soft and matt-free. Hunter is up to date on his vetting, but has yet to be neutered. We're hoping that he will be fixed when he arrives from Kansas, however there are very few vets in this industrial area of Kansas. If he isn't fixed, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Hunter to be neutered and micro chipped at our vet in Denver to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation. Hunter is arriving on transport in Denver on Tuesday 1/9/18. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If you're interested in this extremely sweet, cuddly and fun-loving best friend, please fill out and return to [email protected], fax to 303-443-7730 or mail a hard copy to Farfel's Farm 906 Pearl Street Boulder, CO 80302. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Hunter, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving guy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
