About Winston

Adoption Fee: $25
Chihuahua / Boston Terrier
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Winston is a lovable black chihuahua mix that we rescued from the streets of Fremont five years ago. He is affectionate, perky and enthusiastic, always ready to play ball or accompany us on a walk or on errands. He is extremely intelligent and has been trained to wait to eat his food/sit/lay down on command and even does cute tricks like roll over, 'prairie dog', and walk a figure 8 around your legs. He loves the car and enjoys going to the office. He can also go long periods of time at home alone, quietly entertaining himself. Like most chihuahuas, Winston will alert you to a visitor's arrival and let you know if he thinks you need to pay attention to what's going on outside. He does well with small dogs, especially similar breeds, but is intimidated by bigger ones. Like many small breed dogs - Winston has initial insecurity about strangers approaching him too quickly. He would need a patient owner who is willing to take things slow when meeting guests. Once he trusts - his reservations fall away and he will be your best friend As our family is growing, it's becoming clear that Winston doesn't have the patience to be around little children. He would be very happy in an adult household that can give him affection and exercise and would be a loyal companion for the right person. Winston is neutered, completely housebroken, and is up to date on all his inoculations. We are hoping to place him in a loving home where he can continue to bring joy to his people, and we would love to continue to visit him if possible and offer dog-sitting help on occasion. From Winston's trainer - (Kathy Kear, who came highly recommended by some Nextdoor folks, and who we have been working with) Winston is extremely smart , eager to learn and would love Learning tricks ! He would make a perfect circus dog. He would also love participating in many other sports because of his drive and joyful attitude toward fun engagement . Winston does have initial insecurity with some strangers as well as with children . He would need to be in a home without children and with an owner that understands how to promote his confidence around New people. I will be gifting one in-home private session to whoever adopts Winston. If they live in the Berkeley area or radius of 10 miles. Otherwise I will provide a thorough phone consultation
