About Riley-ADOPTION PENDING

Border Collie / Australian Shepherd
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Male

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young puppy. They're so new and fresh with every possibility open to them. That's the case unless they're in a high-kill shelter at risk of euthanasia due to lack of space because of the never-ending revolving door of unwanted pets. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great New Mexico rescuer in saving Riley. She could see that his temperament was so sweet and engaging that she couldn't bear to allow him to be euthanized. Farfel's was immediately contacted by Riley's rescuer...she was enamored by this gorgeous puppy and was on a mission to make sure he was safe. Farfel's Rescue immediately agreed and Riley became a treasured member of our rescue. Riley is a new and very popular miniature mix of a Border Collie and Australian Shepherd. They are bred for their smaller size (just about 25 - 30 lbs when full grown) super intelligence and excellent ability to fit into a family. At 14 weeks old and 11 lbs (expected to be approximately 25 lbs when full-grown) Riley is a great example of this breed mix. According to his foster, Riley is a cottony-soft, very cuddly puppy who is initially a bit shy, but once comfortable is so very sweet and loving that it's been a fun and rewarding experience to spend time getting him ready for his new life in Colorado. Riley is like a blank slate...open and curious about everything around him. If he continues this regimen of socialization that promote positive relationships with other dogs and bonding with humans...Riley will become a well-adjusted and very loving adult companion. Riley is a gorgeous herding mix puppy with a shining coat that has the most stunning shades of red, chestnut and white running through it. Riley's sweet and cuddly demeanor is just who he is...he just appears to be more snuggly and mellow than your average crazy puppy (but watch out..puppy energy may call and then he's a silly and very entertaining guy). If Riley is treated kindly with clear behavioral guidelines, he will become a well-adjusted guy who respects his people as his leaders. To teach Riley these skills, positive reinforcement group training classes are highly recommended. He will therefore be able accompany his family just about anywhere with the assurance that he'll be an appropriate and engaging guy. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area. A family that loves Riley like crazy is exactly the type of folks we're searching for for this very loving puppy. We also feel it's very important that he is provided with exercise and mental stimulation. Riley will be overjoyed when his future holds hikes along Colorado trails enjoying the sunshine. Socializing with dog-loving hikers along the way will definitely speak to the engaging nature of this adorable puppy. We'd love a family for Riley that spends lots of time at home (retirees or a younger family that works part time or from home would be perfect) and chooses to include a fuzzy best friend in their activities. Riley can be a great take-along pup that can be taught that the car is a fun place that leads to great adventures out in the community. Riley will be arriving in Colorado unfixed due to his very young age...After his arrival, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for his neuter, microchip and any additional puppy shots he might require if our Denver vet is used. Riley will require a commitment to periodic grooming. Lots of sudsy baths and serious brushing combined with great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement would be great!) will keep this puppy's coat healthy, matt-free and silky-soft. Riley will be arriving in on transport in Denver on Saturday 1/6/18. Applications are currently being accepted for this extremely sweet and devoted best friend (and amazing lap puppy). An application can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested, please fill out and return to [email protected] or fax to 303-443-7730. **PLEASE NOTE: If you're truly interested in adopting Riley, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving guy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
