We have reached a sad and difficult threshold with our dog Lila who we have had since she was a puppy. She turned 10 at the end of November and at this stage of her life is just not compatible with our 21-month-old toddler. Under most circumstances she is extraordinarily sweet, bright, loving, and sensitive. She has always been very protective of her personal space which we have managed by not abruptly approaching her when, for example, she's lying down. This is a slow learning curve, however, for a toddler. We have had growling and a few nips and it's more than we can manage. Health-wise she has a fatty tumor on her side. She needs a home without young kids where she will once again receive the attention she's used to.
