About Kobe

Adoption Fee: $175
Border Collie
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Adoption pending for late May* Feel free to follow her progress and if adopted on the rescue's facebook page* Cabana, Kobe for short, is a 2 year old gorgeous border collie. She came to rescue a bit ago and we've been working with her since. Borders are a highly intelligent, active, working dog and she was displaying signs of anxiety and other negative behaviors causing her need to come for rehab. She was severely abused in one of her homes and she has been in many already. There is some head trauma that she may never overcome. Sometimes she loses balance and she is very fear aggressive if she feels threatened. She's amazing as long as she has a job and a firm owner, consistent rules, etc. She has been great with children but will push the limits with adults. Since she's got lots of dogs to play with and ways to be active, she has shown how amazing of a pup she is here at rescue. She was so distressed and high strung that on transport to rescue, she broke out of her crate and was creating a dangerous driving situation for the transporter. Since then her car manners have improved greatly and we are making great strides but we have a ways to go. She starts a basic obedience course March 19th and once she passes that she will be enrolled in an agility course to help her build confidence and work her amazing brain. Progress made so far is that she does well with crate training as long as her people are not visible. She will bark and beg to be let out to play otherwise but if alone is quiet and calm. It has taken her time to finally play with toys and another dog but she does love to play soccer and anything with balls we have learned. She loves children. She's as good pup. Would do great in a home with an active guardian. She is NOT a working ranch dog. She fits the better lifestyle of a pack carrying dog, a running partner, an agility companion, etc. She needs a job that is hers and makes her feel value added. Dog parks, teach frisbee, go for walks or jogs, etc. Kobe is by no means a bad dog, she just literally was beaten so badly that she has mental and physical trauma. Some may never be healed if there is permanent brain damage but with the right handlers, she has made amazing, absolutely amazing strides. She listens well most times, has her basic obedience down, and is smart as smart can be. She was terrified if I even moved my hand when she first came to rescue and now she isn't phased. Each day is a better day and she's going to bring someone a ton of joy. If interested in meeting and potentially adopting once she is ready end of summer please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Adoption fee is $175 and all residents are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and treated for any other known medical needs. Breeds cannot be guaranteed. Housetraining is not guaranteed but crate training is worked on with all residents. Please feel free to follow her progress on the rescue's Facebook page. She may always be a bit special needs but she deserves a chance to overcome the abuse she has endured.
