About Kyna

We rescued this senior girl (10-12 yrs old), Kyna (Gaelic for wise) FKA Esther 12/13 after we were contacted by the rescue coordinator at the Georgetown shelter earlier in the week as they were hopeful she could still be rescued. We had a foster offer who is partial to the seniors step up so we could take her in. The shelter vet stated she has severe hip dysplasia but 'gets around fine and still does her business outside. She even has pep in her step still! She doesn't care for her paws to be messed with but otherwise is very sweet. She seems to want to play with other dogs and would likely do best with another dog that is calm like her.' After several trips to our rescue vet, we have learned that sweet Miss Kyna does have a degenerative disc in her spine and well as weakness in her hips aka hip dysplasia. She is currently on both an anti-inflammatory and pain med to help make her more comfortable. Luckily the mammory gland tumors the vet found were benign, which the vet was very excited about for her future! Due to the fact that she needs to gain some weight, the vet did not suggest water treadmill therapy. She also felt that cold laser therapy would not be an option for her as well due to having so many places that would need to be lasered. She did however feel that accupuncture might benefit her, so once she finishes healing up from her spay we will be looking into that option for her. In the meantime....Kyna has developed a love a.k.a. obsession for toys!! Her favorite is trying to see how many toys she can fit in her mouth at once! :) She also loves treats and human food....but her prescription joint food not-so-much. She may be considered a senior, but is has certainly not dulled her personality or love for life!
