Spirey is a Pomeranian/spaniel 1 year old mix male. He weighs about 10 pounds. One of our partner shelters called us when a young dog came into the shelter after being hit by a car. He was a mess. Broken pelvis, a broken right leg in two places, nerve damage, cuts and scrapes. The shelter vet suggested either PTS or amputate the right leg. I put a call into my vet and sent him the xrays. He suggested we could fix him up enough to live a happy life, so we took him in. Spirey had surgery to pin the break in his right leg and it has healed well. Had we amputated that leg, Spirey would have been at a severe disadvantage. The leg we fixed is the strong and healthy one! He goes in for surgery next week to take the pin out and address the left hip/leg's continual nerve paralysis. Although he is up and walking (running actually), Spirey still cant place his foot on the ground and walks with his paw knuckled over. He now wears a brace in order to help him place his foot more normally, however, he still has little control of this leg/hip. He has to wear a constant wrap or covering to prevent damage to the top of his foot. After all of this, he is doing well! He is starting physical therapy and acupuncture next week. He will eventually need a foster or adoptive home that is willing to help him recover the rest of the way. He is a sweet boy that does great with other dogs. He is active even with his handicap. His new body does not slow him down a bit! Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older, and always before being placed in their new homes. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at firstname.lastname@example.org or click on the CONTACT link on this page. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. If you live within a five-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
