About Hazel

Look at that sweet face! Hazel is a three year old beagle-shepherd mix, and weighs just under 50 pounds. Originally from Tennessee, she was sent to a shelter in Philadelphia at the age of two and is currently being fostered until she can find a forever home. She's still getting used to city noises, and especially enjoys trips to the park or the woods. She's sweet and gentle, and a bit timid. Before she was adopted, she gave birth to a litter of puppies, but she has since been spayed. She completed heartworm treatment in October 2017 and is now cured and in great health. She gets along very well with other dogs and loves to meet new pups. This beautiful dog is house-trained, and doesn't jump or chew on furniture. Despite her beagle heritage, she doesn't bark, howl or growl at all, and softly whines if she needs something. She likes to spend time on her bed and in quiet spaces. She enjoys being petted and scratched, and is food motivated. While she is slow to build a relationship with a new person, she is always interested in saying hi, and does warm up to people with time (she seems to be calm around young children and she is good with adults and teens). She's very attentive and observant of household boundaries, and doesn't go into rooms or spaces where she's not allowed. She knows how to sit, lay down, and wait. Though she's still learning how to play with people and toys, she is always gentle and careful. She does very well with routine, and her favorite activity is going on walks with more than one person at a time. Due to her fear of sudden and unfamiliar noises outdoors, she may pull on her leash during short walks in the city and want to go back indoors (she is currently on Prozac for her anxiety). Hazel is a mild-mannered and sweet pup who will acclimate well in a calm and permanent home.
