Buddy was found abandoned and injured behind a farm building in Plainfield, IL. He was very docile and accepted dog treats. As he stood up to accept treats, we realized his leg was badly broken and needed immediate treatment. Although he must have been in excruciating pain, he never growled or snapped and allowed us to lift him into vehicle for transport to our vet. Our vet checked to see if he had been micro-chipped. Buddy was not micro-chipped. In addition to the broken leg (most likely caused by being hit by a car), Buddy has scars on his neck and underneath his mouth that appear to have been caused by restraints that were left on too long and too tightly. It also appears he was an outside dog as his ear tips have been damaged by cold weather. We contacted humane societies, vet offices, animal control, and missing dog websites but no one had reported the dog missing. Our intention was never to return the abused dog to the owner but to get more background on him. Unfortunately because of infection, Buddy's right hind leg needed to be amputated. At the same time his leg was amputated, we had him neutered. We have kept him for almost three months so he could totally heal. He loves playing ball, going for walks, and being around people. Amazingly, he loves people and dogs that are smaller than him.
