Below is more info, please read EVERYTHING. Serious inquires only! NOTES FROM SAFE HAVEN ABOUT THIS DOG: Listed as an Australian Shepherd at the shelter, but I don't see that at all. I visited Coco at the shelter, and she has a tall, long, lean body and a face more like a Weimeraner or a German Short-haired Pointer. I'd say she is at least 60 lbs. She barked at me at first when I walked up to her kennel, but calmed down a bit as I stood there and she stayed up close to me. I put my hand up against the kennel door and she sniffed it several times. She has sad eyes and my heart went out to her. She is listed as having had a severe reaction to vaccinations (per previous owner). They allowed me to look at her records and she was listed as throwing up after she received them. I do have to say though that their Vet gave her WAY to many vaccines all at the same time! This drastically increases the likelihood of a dog having a reaction. They gave poor Coco a ProHeart injection (heartworm preventative), pyrantel pamoate (dewormer), Bordetella vaccination, Combo (Distemper/Parvo) vaccination, Lepto vaccination, and a Rabies vaccination all at the same time! Since we have current shot records, I would not want Coco to have to get them again. Her Rabies is next due 6/7/18, and her combo 6/7/2020. I would not give her any more than that. I think the reason that she had a reaction is because they overloaded her body. As a precaution, the Vet at the shelter said that sometimes a dog can be pre-treated with Benadryl 1-2 hours in advance of the vaccine to control any possible reaction. NOTES FROM THE SHELTER ABOUT THIS DOG: Aust Shepherd; Brown and Tan; Spayed; 1 YR/1 MO I came to the shelter as an owner surrender. Surrender reason: OWNER PROB MEDICAL: No significant findings. Per previous owner, pup has a severe reaction to vaccines BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Coco was adopted as a puppy and returned as a one year old dog. She had bonded with her female owner and was friendly with her family, however her owner states she is fearful of unfamiliar people and more fearful and reserved of men, sometimes afraid of unfamiliar inanimate objects. She had a good profile, crate trained, friendly with dogs. She also had a history of urinating when afraid or excited. When handler approached the kennel she had soft face, backed away when handler entered. She growled when handler offered leash but did tolerate while she ate treats. She would approach and sniff people, back away with reaching, at times jumping backward when handlers took a step or shifted body weight. She did relax with handler with time, allowed petting, sat for treats. She readily engaged with toys. When male handler entered room she approached and sniffed, barked and backed away but took treats from him. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: She will need a gradual introduction to new people in a quiet home environment. HOW SAFE HAVENS E-LIST ADOPTION PROGRAM WORKS: - This pet has NOT been saved & is in danger of being euthanized at the shelter on the deadline posted. - The shelter will not allow me to have potential adopters come down & view the pets. This pet is in an area only accessible to rescue groups. - You must be 100% SURE you want to adopt this pet & commit to adopting without meeting them first (I know, scary, but keep reading it gets better...). - Fill out an application & be screened before the deadline so I can let the shelter know we have a home for this pet. For a dog:http://www.adoptapet.com/Safe-Haven/adoption-application/ - Once you get an approval e-mail, rest easy & follow the instructions. - I will then pull the pet off the list, if your pet is marked as 'spayed' or 'neutered' in the shelter notes, plan to get your new family member either that day or the next day. Pick-up times are 9-5 every day of the week - If your pet
