I rescued a 1 yr old Catahoula from our local animal shelter before I knew anything about this breed. I've had her for about 9 months and she's a very sweet dog, unfortunately we can't keep her. We live on 40 acres and have a dog run to keep her in at night, but rather than roam on our back acreage and woods, she began going across the road to our neighbors house. We were worried she'd get hit by a car (we saw a close call) and so we spent over a thousand dollars putting up a wooden fence around about 1/4 acre. That worked until she realized she could jump the fence. Now we have no alternative but to keep her in her dog run or let her out and hope she doesn't get hit by a car....as she is CONSTANTLY going across the road. I'm home most of the day and try to bring her inside, but she longs to be outside and whines to go out. Not to mention that my husband has allergies to animals, so I can't keep her in for long. We desperately need to find her a good home. Somewhere that she can be safe, with a loving family. We think she was abused before we got her by the way she acted, and I can't bear to think of her going somewhere where she will be mistreated or locked in a dog kennel her entire life! She loves kids and other dogs. She's not good with young children, as she gets too rowdy and knocks them down (I have a 4yr and 2 yr old granddaughters.). She would be most happy living on a ranch with a purpose, but would also settle in to living inside with her family so she's not so bored or lonely.
