About Harlie

Hello! My name is Harlie. I'm a 9 year old spayed female red merle Australian Shepherd, and weigh 36 lbs. I'm fully vaccinated, heartworm negative and microchipped. I'm an owner surrender, as I did not get along with the small child in the house. I was with my previous mom since I was a tiny pup, and I grew up with lots of manners! I sit, stay, lay down, come, load into the car and I love to be with my people and work with them on whatever they're doing. I get along well with other dogs that are not too high energy, and I love cats. I'll do well in a home with no children or children over the age of 10 that are not too high strung and know how to be gentle with me. My previous owner also reported that I have always had a very crusty and ulcerated nose. When I was accepted into ASF they agreed to biopsies of my nose to get to the root of the problem. Turns out I have what is called discoid lupus erythematosus, which is an autoimmune disease of the skin. It's not as scary as it sounds, I just need to be on prednisone and topical nose ointment twice a day. The pred also made me pee a little extra when I was sleeping so now I am on Proin twice a day which helps a ton! I was also a little on the hefty side when I went to my foster. In 6 weeks we've shaved off 13 lbs with a healthy diet and some exercise! My Dr. says that I'm a much healthier weight now at 36 lbs. and will need someone to monitor it closely, since pred can make me 'fluffy' again.
