Date into Rescue: 5/2/2017 Reason for being in rescue: owner release/too many dogs Foster location: close to Waxhaw, NC Special Needs? none Weight: 15 pounds Height: 15 inches at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? A fenced yard with access via a doggy door is needed - Buttercup LOVES to run and explore and she is use to coming and going from the home as she wishes. What kind of home would be best for me? Buttercup is very timid little pet, possibly due to lack of socialization that can result in fear agression. A home that will understand this and lovingly continue to work with her. Buttercup has changed so much in the past few months in a loving but firm home. What is my personality like? Very timid that can result in fear agression. At the rescue, Buttercup would not come out of her crate. Therefore, she went into a foster home. Once relaxed in the foster home, Buttercup has become a total love bug to her foster family. She will snuggle her head against your neck, will stay right with you as you move within the house, will beg for attention every chance she gets. How do I act when I first meet new people? Very timid and while she has gotten better, she can be aggressive. When visitors come into the foster home, Buttercup will tremble, moan, almost howl, will coward and hide next to the foster family. However, we recently began trips to Petsmart where she accepted a treat from an employee and then allowed them to pet her...but she was very nervous. She has great potential, but her new family will have to be willing to work with her. More tips and tidbits: Buttercup has a LOUD bark!! And she LOVES to bark. She will run around the yard barking...nonstop. But, her bark is so loud, it will surprise you. In the foster home, Buttercup has relaxed and become a true cuddle bug. She LOVES, LOVES to be held and cuddled. She gives the greatest head hugs. However, she has nipped the hand of her foster dad on a couple of occasions. Once, she had chew toy her foster dad did not see, the second time was when he needed to move her after she was settled. Buttercup has never shown this behavior to her foster mom who is home with her and her primary caregiver. We are working on walking on a leash, but cars driving by or if you try to jog with her on a leash or walk her with a stroller, she will still be frighten to the point she will try to run. Her new family will need to understand this and continue to work with her and to be very careful. Her foster family always keeps two leashes and two harnesses on her at all times. When Buttercup arrived at the foster home, she guarded her crate and the area around her crate. However, Buttercup no longer displays this behavior in her foster home. She now completely ignores the snippy attitudes of the older dogs in the home. Buttercup has learned to enjoy young children in the foster home, but she plays roughly and therefore, it would be best if her new home had only older, considerate children. Buttercup's coat is very soft and plush and is very high maintenance. Because she enjoys the outdoors, her foster family has kept her coat very short. Buttercup does well being groomed, after she is out of the crate. Buttercup loves to sleep among pillows and blankets. Her foster family often finds her among the pillows or blankets on the bed, resting. House trained? Buttercup is doing very well with her house training in her foster home. Buttercup has learned to use a doggy door and always goes outside, but has used a pee pad. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Estimated birth date 6/14/2014
