About BAMBI

Adoption Fee: $550
Pit Bull mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Bambi was saved from one of the high kill shelters we work with in Texas, where dogs generally get just 3 days to be saved before they are killed. She was extremey malnourished and had recently had puppies that the shelter had not found when she was picked up. Bambi is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and microchipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 1 March 2015 and at the time of rescue weighed 22.50 pounds. She has been listed as a Pit Bull Terrier mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. She arrived at the rescue in Sebec on 16th December 2017. Since being at the rescue Bambi has gained a good amount of weight and is clearly feeling good and is a very happy girl, wanting to make up for the missed happy life she should have had as a puppy. She is very high energy and needs a strong alpha family. Bambi is located in the kennel building and shares her kennel with a small/medium chihuahua mix. She has a kennel mate so she has a playmate to keep her active and stop her from getting bored. I do believe she has potential to be disruptive (chewing) if she gets bored. She does chew and destroy toys so only highly durable toys are recommended. She loves squeaky toys, but de-squeaks them within minutes. She uses the dog door to go out into the run to do her business and has never had an accident in her kennel. Bambi has not had any kind of formal training but he is very smart and responsive and can be relatively well mannered after she has gotten rid of some of her energy. She is still very excitable and does jump up initially, she walks ok on the leash, but as with all rescue dogs the more leash walking he gets, the better she will become. Out of the rescue environment where she is getting the attention and mental and physical exercise and stimulation that she needs, I do think she will calm down a lot. She is bursting with love and excitement and clearly wants to explore and do all she can. She is like the teenager who would climb down the drain-pipe to get out - she is not bad, or aggressive, she just wants to have fun. Bambi has not shown any kind of aggression ever, with humans or other dogs. She does have alpha tendencies when with a group of dogs, but she has not been aggressive, just assertive. I do not think she would challenge a strong alpha dog, but will step up if she is amongst more submissive dogs. Bambi is a total love bug with humans and just wants to run and play and love and hug and give kisses, then run and play some more. She has been around small children and other than her being bouncy and active she settled down and loved them stroking and making a fuss of her. Bambi is a young, high energy girl who will need a daily opportunity to get out and expel that high energy, so a family that enjoys a an active lifestyle would be needed. She is also going to need mental stimulation so games, exercise and challenges Someone who understand that she will need training and guidance and learns that humans are in charge so boundaries are set. She is going to enjoy an outdoors kind of family who can give her the lifestyle that she needs. Going on road trips, to new places, hikes and adventures and letting her explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer will be to her and your benefit. Bambi is going to need a family that understands the importance of basic and advanced training. We advise that families work on their own basic training so that boundaries and expectations can be set and personalities and body language learnt in the process, which will help form a much stronger bond. Being a pit-bull it is extremely important that the family take training and manners extremely seriously as there are people who just want the breed killed off and will use anything as an excuse to report an aggressive dog. Bambi has a strong personality and must know under no uncertain terms that humans are in charge. She is not aggressive just wants to have a lot of fun. 'We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. Bambi will make a great family addition to an experienced family who understands that she might need time to adapt and she might be nervous and unsure initially but know that she has huge potential once allowed to decompress and feel safe and loved. She is fun, active and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call her own.
