About KINGSTON

Adoption Fee: $550
German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Kingston was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. Kingston is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 8 December 2014 and weighs around 80.20 pound. He has been listed as a German Shepherd Dog. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, so it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely. Kingston was originally located in the kennel building, but he appeared to be spending a lot of time outside in the run, so I brought him over to the house to keep a check on him. Whilst in the kennel and also in the house he does use the dog doors to get in and out and to do his business outside. Kingston has definitely being physically abused as he cowers down a lot of the time and flinches his eyes as if he is preparing to get hit, it is very sad. He is extremely affectionate and as in true shepherd style is my shadow. He follows me everywhere and will lie as close as he can get to be where I am. He is extremely affectionate and loving and totally deserves the love and affection he has clearly not had before. Kingston is great with other dogs, he is more on the submissive side with them initially licking their mouths and when a more alpha dog approaches to show their dominance he stands there and will wait until the other dog has left. He has not cowered or gone on his back, showing his belly and he might be a little more alpha when he has been here a little longer and has got to know the dogs personalities and place in the pack. That is something the dogs work out amongst themselves, but I do not feel he would be a strong alpha and do not expect him to be aggressive in any way. Although Kingston is an adult he still acts as your typical 'teenager' he is high energy, he is extremely smart, he will push your limits, but when he knows that there is no manipulating you and he respects you, then he is an absolutely wonderful dog. He is extremely affectionate, when sitting or lying close by he will lean into you he. He would make a great family dog, or companion to someone who wants that special buddy to take everywhere with them. %BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BDWe do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. Kingston is full of energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a huge bonus. He rode great in the car and was happy looking out of the window. He would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that he can burn off some of his energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. He will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Kingston and his humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. Kingston is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
