Bear (about 7 months old as of 12/7) is a neutered male black shorthaired kitten. Bear was born in a feral cat colony but rescued along with his siblings and mother when he was just a newborn and raised in foster care. Unfortunately his mother was very feral and so stressed being in captivity she rejected 2 of her 5 kittens (who were fine with a little bottle feeding) but Bear was her favorite and she went weirdly out of her way to give him the most milk- he's not just the biggest of his litter he is almost twice the size of his siblings and already bigger than most full grown adult cats! Being mommy's favorite had a drawback though; Bear didn't listen to his feral mom on most things and just loves people, being petted, even rolling around for belly rubs, but she did manage to convince him that being picked up isn't right. We've worked with him and gotten him to where he loves jumping into laps and climbing around on people but he's still iffy about being carried around. He instantly forgives attempts to hold him against his will though and resumes purring wildly as soon as his paws are back on the ground and when he's not frantically trying to escape a holding attempt he's a super gentle giant who loves to play but doesn't play rough and would be good for any kids old enough to be taught not to try and pick him up. He doesn't have much dog experience but could probably learn to get along with a calm cat respectful dog thanks to his tremendous size, and he loves other cats although he'd prefer a young playful wrestling partner like his brother Piccolo. Our adoption fee for kittens under 6-12 months old is $100, which includes them getting fixed, microchipped, tested for FIV and FeLV, and up to date on vaccines. If you would like to meet a variety of our kittens, many not listed here yet, please check out our regular adoption events, Sundays from 12-4 at the Vernon Hills Petco.
