About RJ

RJ is a 2017 Home for the Holidays dog�'�|again. It is very disheartening for RJ to once more be listed here as this will be his 4th Christmas in the shelter. He was saved from impending euthanasia at Animal Control in 2014 and never did we think that this charismatic speckled boy would still be in our care after 3 years. RJ loves, loves, loves people. He does NOT like cats. Though he had dog friends in the earlier months of his arrival, there have been others which he openly disliked and would either dominate or behave aggressively. We have great hopes that when he is out of the shelter environment, that he will feel relaxed as he was 3 years ago in order to have dog friends once again. However we will not adopt him into a home with dogs nor one with cats. RJ loves to give kisses and to take long walks. He is a medium sized Australian cattle dog mix and is now 4 years old. A fenced yard is required. RJ's fee has been subsidized by a sponsor to $25. He is neutered, fully vaccinated and tested free of heart worms. Adoption policies/application procedures are detailed under All Adoptable Animals. Adoption of all dogs/cats requires an approval process to ensure that they are going into a home suitable for their needs and committed to their care and safety. Each is placed with same due diligence that they would be given if they were our own furry family members. Adopters who are not within the local area of the shelter MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. Meeting approved adopters is one of the final steps in the adoption process. We do not permit transport or shipping of our residents without the adopter. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter which provides quality care, spay/neuter-all vaccines, deworming, vet exam, standard disease testing and for dogs-monthly heart worm prevention treatment. Resident animals are owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The shelter is not permitted by GA law to accept strays. The facility is usually operating at capacity with a list of animals approved for intake waiting for space to open. Adoption hours are Tues-Sat 10-4 and Sun 1-4.
