About TJ

Adoption Fee: $50
Bichon Frise
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

TJ is a very smart Bichon. He is however anxious if left alone. He has been living with lots of other dogs so there is no problem there. He is completely housebroken unless he enters a new home with dogs and then he feels the need to 'mark' things. He will NOT stay in a crate. He does stay in a playpen. He hates to be left alone. He needs to be at someones side constantly. He is not needy in any other physical way excpet that he wants to be at your feet / in the same room. He will be totally quiet if he doesn't need to eat or potty as long as he can be near you. If he needs to potty or if he is hungry he can tell you.. he will go to the door and bark or come 'tap' you.. hit you with his two front legs and bark if he needs to go out/ or eat. He is thirsty all the time so constant access to water is good for him. He gets let out the front door to go potty on a leash that is tied to the ground peg outside. Otherwise he will wander and run from you if you chase him. He loves soft toys to get out his anxiety.. not chew toys but a stuffed toy with a squeaker. He will whine a high pitched whine if he needs water or if hes in the car or if hes anxious. He would be perfect for a person who stays home a lot and likes a shadow but not a needy one. He doesn't mind being petted but doesn't require it. He will be groomed easily but will whine that high pitched whine the whole time. He is very smart. Knows words and will listen unless hes outside not on a leash. Do not leave trash out or a trash can that can be knocked over because he will get in it and rip it apart.. especially bathroom trash! He likes to eat alone. If he sees dogs playing rough he will try to jump in and stop it .. he has gotten hurt that way. He is smart but its like hes super anxious if hes alone or sees rough play by other dogs. I wouldn't let small children chase or wrestle with each other around him.. until he knows the kids. Initially he thinks he has to stop the fight. Eventually if hes been around the kids he wont even blink . He will stay in the room with kids and just sleep in a corner. BUT I would never let a kid greet him alone... really anyone but if introduced he will adjust within a few minutes. You just need to watch him meet people and make sure hes ok. As soon as he doesn't care he will walk away. TJ will alert you if anyone is outside.. hes very wary of a stranger. But give him a few minutes of you talking with them and he will be fine ( but he might nip at people until he is comfortable ). TJ has serious breath problems.. we have tried many things.. but nothing has worked. he loves to run in a safe place. There are times when he has acted like he cannot use his back legs.. but after 2/3 days hes fine. TJ is great if you can be with him most of the time only we cannot any more and he is stressed about that. I would really love for him to find a single person ( ideally ) that could just be with him most of the time. He does best on walks with a harness not a collar as he pulls the collar and chokes easily. please ask me anything. We want to find a good home for him in his old age. I can send pictures if you ask .. I couldn't get them to load on this site.
