About Odin

Odin 2 yrs old & has never been loved. Odin is a 60 lb beagle/lab mix who spent his life banished to a back yard having no contact with anyone or anything except for whoever was abusing him. When he first arrived, if we tried to kiss or hug him, he thought we were trying to bite or hurt him. He's since learned affection and likes 'lap time.' The way he studied the walls when first brought indoors tells me he's never seen inside a house before. He's a very vocal little man who expresses his fears by 'talking' (growling). We pet him lovingly as he's telling us how upset he is and remind him everything is okay. The fearful incidents are becoming less frequent as he experiences life. He's never once offered to bite any of us but the growling is enough that I'd rather he not be in a home with children. Odin needs a kind adult 'Pack Leader' who can patiently teach him to live without fear and teach the poor baby how to play. Odie ignores the cats but has a strong dislike for hooved animals, so he wouldn't do well on a farm. He loves long walks - those are his favorite thing. He does well with other dogs when socializing as long as his handler doesn't dare show affection towards another dog while in his presence. Odie resource guards his human affection. He really just needs someone who can be devoted to him. Our little man has been undergoing basic obedience classes for a couple months and is responding wonderfully. There is no doubt in my mind that with proper training, Odin would make a good therapy dog and could be easily trained to perform tasks.
