About Opie

****** Opie CAN be adopted alone, but PREFER Rehoming with his Father, Jackson, IF POSSIBLE. They are a BONDED PAIR -- OPIE & JACKSON -- however, our living situation is desperate! [Opie-Offspring & Jackson-Father (ID# 17-12-01-00294)]****** OPIE Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier mix DOB: 10/30/14 (3 years old) Weight: 45 lbs. Neutered Micro-chipped Opie's parents were siblings, from the same litter (Former owner did not have them altered). BREED: American Pit Bull Terrier mix. OPIE's TEMPERAMENT: High-energy; Somewhat hyper (animal trainer said he is still very puppy-like); Extremely playful (especially with his father, Jackson, with whom he spends all of his time); Loves to be outdoors, running a lot & chasing critters (turtles, birds, squirrels, etc.), but especially baby squirrels. He sometimes catches them, and tries to play with them, which doesn't bode well for the critter. He is easily excited; very loving & affectionate; curious & impulsive at times -- his curiosity will frequently result in him running head-on toward whatever caught his attention! He imitates Jackson's excited behavior at feeding time (repeatedly jumping up & down like a jack-rabbit); usually loves and is curious about other dogs (so will run right up to them, if he is loose!); great with kids; NOT socialized to Cats; usually likes people (even new people, but may bark, initially); prefers to snuggle with Jackson, or people, when sleeping; Loves to 'kiss' people, mostly by licking, but sometimes kind of nibbles, which can hurt if he is kissing your face, or a sensitive area; and, finally, Opie may resort to alarm barking, if he is overly anxious, fearful, or needs to go outside to potty. Most of his bad habits can easily be remedied, with a little time and consistent effort. No one has ever put forth any consistency with him (I, unfortunately, do not have the time). If Opie cannot be with Jackson, he would probably prefer a home with another dog.
