Sweet Betsy is an adult female, 3 toed box turtle (Terrapene carolina major) who entered CMTR's care on 10/12/17. Besty was found by a Good Samaritan in the road after she had a traumatic encounter with a car. She sustained lacerations to both rear legs and her tail. She is healing well now and is available for adoption. Betsy has been displaced, meaning we don't know her home 'zone.' Since box turtles have an internal homing signal, they will spend their lives attempting to return to their home area, despite the distance or the perils. Therefore, when box turtles are displaced, the best option for their welfare is to adopt them to qualified families. *Adoptable turtles can only be shipped during the winter months IF the weather is stable enough to ensure the welfare of our fosters. During winter, adopters ideally would be willing to pick up their new family member in Florence, MS (unless alternative arrangements are made with CMTR). Adoption application at www.centralmsturtlerescue.com Adopters are responsible for shipping costs. Any donation above the cost of shipping will be used for medical care and supplies for our fosters in our all-volunteer rescue. Please familiarize yourself with any required licenses/permits needed to own reptiles in your resident state.
