Whenever a sweet and engaging Maltese or Westie mix gets into an urgent situation, Farfel's rescuers like to help. We find that pups of these breed mixes are loving lap dogs, very smart and silly.. and make excellent and devoted family members. They fit well into a household and make great companions for all age groups. We're seeking an individual or family for Poppy that spends lots of time at home. She gets very attached to her family and feels much better being close. She will be the most bonded and loving companion ever..bringing so much joy with her loyal commitment to her people. Sometimes rescue dogs are initially a bit shy....but put them into a home with a loving family that provides frequent socialization, nurturing, love and belly rubs.. and they will shine. Poppy is one of these pups...she's a blank slate that's just waiting for the commitment of a great family. Her love will know no bounds as she becomes a best friend and the greatest lap dog ever. Poppy is such a great age and size... at just about 12 months old (such a perfect age - young enough to be a blank slate, open to all the new and wonderful possibilities in her life.. yet old enough to have left her babyish behaviors behind) and weighs just 8 lbs..the perfect size to accompany her family everywhere a sweet and well-behaved small pup is welcome). Poppy is lucky enough to have inherited the very sweet personality of the Maltese breed.. along with the curiosity and the ability to entertain of the Westie (they're so silly!). Poppy is so excited and attentive when her people teach her the wonders of her world. If Poppy is trained with a positive reinforcement trainer (Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area) and given tons of love and socialization with both humans of all ages and other dogs, she will grow into a self-confident girl who will be a wonderful and well-adjusted companion. Poppy has all the elements working in her favor since she's starting out with a great temperament, a love of life and a puppyish desire to please. We'd like to place Poppy in a home with either active retirees or a younger family who loves spending lots of time with a fuzzy and devoted family member. Poppy would also enjoy the company of a fun and respectful canine...she would love the playtime and companionship. Poppy will shine for a family who is kind and very loving while being a leader...this will bring out all the wonderful qualities and loyalty that live inside of this very cute and loving Maltese/Westie. Poppy will love the neighborhood paths and trails of Colorado. She's the perfect size to enjoy walks and socializing...window-shopping would also be great to fine-tune her urban skills and provide the socialization that is so important in the development of a dog's abilities. With feelings of security within the family, Poppy will learn the skills of being alone and knowing her family will always return. Poppy appears to have a gorgeous, cottony-soft, non-shedding coat (although it's difficult to tell for certain until her sad shelter hair grows out). She will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her lovely coat shining, cottony-soft and matt-free. We've requested that Poppy be spayed prior to her arrival in Colorado. Since New Mexico shelters have very limited access to vets and funding...this isn't always possible. Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Poppy's spay and microchip after her arrival on transport if our Denver vet is used.
