*MUST LIVE IN 50-MILE RADIUS OF ITASCA (A SUBURB OF CHICAGO) WITHIN THE ILLINOIS BORDER TO ADOPT, NO EXCEPTIONS!* Howdy! My name is Hermes, and I am an extra special young dude who is looking for a superstar family with whom to enjoy life's adventures! I am a 5-month-old shepherd/Carolina dog mix, and I am a super handsome little fella, if I could be so bold! I currently weigh in at about 30 pounds but have a little more growing to do. I think I will be a medium-sized doggie when full grown, maybe weighing in around 40-50 pounds. I have super soft blond fur with a distinguished black muzzle on my face. My ears that stand at attention are pretty cute, too, right? They really help me hear how often you tell me you love me! I came to Fetching Tails Foundation all the way from Mississippi. My siblings and I were rescued from under an abandoned mobile home by the nice ladies from the Tunica Humane Society, and we got to make the trip to Chicagoland for a better chance at finding loving homes. I have had the best time learning and growing in my foster home! I have a big canine sister, FTF alumnus Dutchie, who shows me the ropes about how to enjoy the life of luxury in a loving home. I get along with doggies of all sizes; I am a submissive pup that takes cues very well from my canine friends and respects their boundaries! I think it would be so fun to have a doggie BFF in my forever home; I even love to snuggle with Dutchie and sleep with her on her doggie bed at night. For a puppy, I am also pretty chill: I enjoy playing tug of war and chewing on appropriate toys and chews (my favorite chew is an elk antler...I hope my forever home has an unlimited supply!), but am also very content to snuggle up with foster momma on the couch while we watch our favorite shows on the TV. I might seem a little shy at first, but once I know you I am very happy to see you and am all tail wags and smiles. I make all my favorite people laugh with my signature greeting: if you get down low I will run to you with a wiggly butt, head tilt, and silly smile! I would be a great addition to any family and would be good with kids, too. Did I mention yet how well-behaved I am? I am super smart and know what go to bed/my crate means and will do so with minimal fussing (by minimal fussing I mean I lay down and relax for a nap right away!) I also know how to sit on command already, too! Since I am a puppy, I am still working on perfecting potty training; I will need continued guidance to do my business outside but currently use potty pads and know to go on them so I don't have any accidents in the house. My foster mommy works from home so I am not currently left alone very long, but when she is gone I do fine resting comfortably in my crate. Fetching Tails Foundation requires all adopters of puppies to sign us up for training classes so we continue to learn while we grow, and I am such a scholar that I just can't wait to see how many more tricks and commands we can master together! Now, I do need to tell you about some of my special needs. I have a condition that is called megaesophagus, which is a congenital condition where the esophagus remains enlarged instead of contracting and prevents food from passing through the esophagus into the stomach. I know, I know, that sounds a little scary, but believe me when I say it is not a fatal condition and with proper care and attention I will live a long, happy life! I am on a medication that I will likely need for the rest of my life, and I enjoy eating three meals a day in my special upright position to help food move down my esophagus into my belly. Remember when I said I am very smart? I learned how and where to stand to eat very fast and am now always ready and waiting when foster mommy gets my food ready! I am a pretty extraordinary, happy-go-lucky guy who would make any family lucky enough to adopt me smile every day with my sweetness and playfulness. If you think you could be the special family to give me the life I have dreamed about, please get in touch with Fetching Tails Foundation soon and tell them Hermes is the handsome fella for you!
