About Bailee

Adoption Fee: 75$
Rhodesian Ridgeback mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Bailee is such a beautiful and smart dog, weighing in at about 75 pounds. She is a Rhodesian ridgeback and hound mix adopted at 11 months old originally from Turks and Caicos Islands. She is 6 years old and has been in Maine with all female family for 5 years. All of the good things about Bailee are that she loves her dog bed on the floor and is very well behaved inside and stays on her bed much the time while inside. She stays off couches and people beds but would happily sleep on a bed with her person/people if she was allowed. She likes to know what her designated space is. Bailee is moderately protective of her yard and home. She barks when strangers and guests arrive but will quickly settle especially when requested. She does not challenge and backs down. She is a terrific watch dog and will alert bark. She does great through the night if she is in the quiet country. I am not sure how she would do in the city as she has never lived there. She has great hearing and smell. Bailee is very adaptable, smart and she learns quickly. She is great with a yard full of chickens as long as they don't challenge her food. Bailee loves all veggies from the garden and some cooked and then mixed with her high quality food. She loves to explore outdoors and to go on walks in the woods. She will usually come back on voice command (sometimes delayed). Bailee is medium energy loves to lounge on her bed, or lay outside in the hot sun but just as much loves to go on short 2 mile jogs and moderately/easy hikes. For the first half mile she is not great on a leash but once she tires she is fine. She does like to chase squirrels, bugs and birds so a leash is recommended unless you have a secure wide open area that you are familiar with. She is great in the car and loves to go places. Probably the best thing of all, she loves the snow and to go snowshoeing with her people. Bailee is so lovable, she has the softest floppy ears and loves to be pet/scratched. You will want to spoil her but shouldn't as she is very smart and likes to take over and run the people in her house. She can be anxious and fearful and she is slightly territorial of the things she loves, such FOOD and her space (BED). As a result of her anxiety and territorial behavior, she needs to be in a home without small children (over 12 years old). She may be placed with another dog if he or she is submissive and calm natured. She has not been in a home with cats so that part is unknown. She learned that the chickens were family in two weeks we had her off the leash around them. So she can learn about cats and that they are family not animals to be chased. Bailee actually needs to live in a place that will not spoil her and needs to know her owner is in charge. She is so food motivated and needs portion control. Bailee has always been female owned so a strong female presence would be great and If you set the ground rules from day one and stick with them she will be a wonderful friend.Bailee has not had any formal training but she is so adaptable and keen. Her receptive language is great and knows many commands like 'Sit', 'Wait' and 'Come' 'shake' and 'leave it' but at times can be stubborn and non compliant in an endearing manner.Bailee doesn't ask for much, so it makes you want to give her more, but don't give in. Bailee just needs someone that will give her kind and tough love (not physical tough, but controlling his environment tough). Maybe Bailee is for you...write for more details
