About Smokey

Hi, I live in Thonotosassa FL and I have a stray dog (looks like a dachshund mix) that wondered onto our property. He gets along with our other dog, but doesn't like our cat's (and we have 3 of them), so we can't keep him. :( He's not aggressive at all and is friendly with everyone, including children. We've named him Smokey, but he could easily be renamed because he doesn't know his name yet. The vet thinks he's somewhere between 8-10 years old. At the vet he weighed 15 pounds but we are working on getting his weight up (he was very emaciated when we found him). We've only had him a little less than a week. He is neutered and up to date on rabies but the vet didn't want to do any other shots at the time because of his weakened condition. He is currently not on any heartworm preventative for the same reason, however he tested negative for heartworm and worms. Other than his malnourished state (which we are working on) and an abscessed tooth (which he is currently taking antibiotics for), the vet thought he was pretty healthy. He will eventually need the abscessed tooth pulled and a dental cleaning, which I am willing to pay for if needed. He walks pretty good on a leash and seems completely housebroken. I really need to find this poor little guy a home because he is such a good dog, so sweet and definitely a lap dog, but my poor cats are in hiding and so scared of him.
